Wedding in rural SE China
Three days after we arrived in Nanning, we were invited by a friend to attend a rural village wedding. The wedding was held at the home of the Father of the Groom and Uncle to our friend Reann. We arrived 2 days early and were able to observe the preparations for the Wedding. Lots of cleaning, decorating, and food prep. Meals were served to the neighbor, friends, and family that were providing the labor. It takes a lot of work to prepare for a wedding. The 5 pigs and 60 geese, and 140 chicken were all butchered and prepared in the courtyard kitchen next to the main house. The temperature was about 96 degrees with about 60% humidity. Indoors and outdoor had electric fans and our sleeping areas had air-conditioning to keep us cool at night. An interesting custom of this village is that even married couples must sleep in different rooms. The bride had to walk the 3 miles between her father’s home and her groom’s father home in a stunning white lace dress. The groom worn a black tux with a red bowtie. The dinner was 12 dishes of pork, beef, chicken, geese, all made in many different ways. There was an awesome sweet fruit bread (mooncake) and field corn in olive oil with red peppers. All the food was wonderful. There were about 600 guests and there so much food that red take home bag were given to the guests.
