The Pinglu Canal: Through the Mountains to the Sea

Xiu and I were a part of history today. We took the first cruise on the Pinglu Canal . We arrived early and were to first to board this brand new boat on this just open calnal. The 134.2-km Pinglu Canal will give southwest China a new southbound water route to Beibu Gulf, with giant ship locks moving 5,000-ton-class vessels across a total drop of about 65 meters.

修和我今天成为了历史的一部分。我们参加了平陆运河的首次航行。我们很早就到了，是第一批登上这艘全新船只的人，这条运河刚刚开通。全长134.2公里的平陆运河将为中国西南地区提供一条通往北部湾的新南向水路，通过巨型船闸可以将5000吨级的船舶跨越约65米的总落差。
